Elementary school students who struggle with reading are individually paired up with a local high school or university student. Paired tutor/buddies meet regularly in a classroom setting at the buddy’s school or nearby community centre. A designated site coordinator is present at all sessions to assist in mentoring our tutors and buddies. Our tutors are trained in fundamentals of reading.
We follow a curriculum that incorporates phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words and reading fluency.
The program is offered 4 times per year, 3 times during the school year (8-16 sessions each) and for 6 weeks during the summertime.
