Elementary school students who struggle with reading are individually paired up with a local high school or university student. Paired mentor/buddies meet regularly in a classroom setting at the buddy’s school or nearby community centre. A designated site coordinator is present at all sessions to assist in mentoring our mentors and buddies. Our mentors are trained in fundamentals of reading.
We follow a curriculum that incorporates phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words and reading fluency.
The program is offered three times per year, with two terms during the school year (8-16 sessions each) and one summer term (8 – 12 sessions).
