5 Ways to Increase Productivity

As a student, I know how difficult it can be to stay focused and on-task, especially with all the distractions around us. Growing up, I constantly struggled with this issue and fell behind in my work. Recently, I learned that change is doable, and I can now stay productive and on top of my tasks. In this article, I will share five tips that have helped me maintain my focus and productivity as a junior in high school.

  1. Establish A Routine

The most important thing I have done this year to maintain productivity is establishing a routine. Every morning, I plan my day and allocate specific times for work. By sticking to a schedule, I found that my natural habits have shifted toward success. Having a consistent daily routine can help reduce stress levels and improve overall well-being. As the great Canadian motivational speaker, Brian Tracy said: “Successful people are simply those with successful habits.”

  2. Creative Workplace

Time flies, especially when you are busy, and it can be challenging to accomplish all your tasks. To help manage my time, I use the productivity planner by Intelligent Change. This planner can track your progress and prioritize your top tasks every day. You can plan your days, set deadlines, and build on your routine. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to increase their productivity.

  3. Change of Scenery

A change of scenery can be helpful for some people, but not everyone. For some, a change in environment can bring inspiration and a fresh perspective, leading to increased productivity. However, for others, it can lead to distractions and a decline in performance. I work best in a professional environment. Experimenting with different work environments is imperative to determine which suits you the best.

  4. Eliminate Distractions

Eliminating distractions is also essential when remaining focused. In the digital age, it is easy to be led astray by browsing the web, checking email notifications, or texting friends and family. I recommend turning off all these notifications and devices when working. Professor Mark at the University of California Irvine found that it can take up to 23 minutes to fully regain focus after being distracted.  Even a few minutes on the web and small distractions can quickly turn into an hour, so be mindful of your time. Remain vigilant, and make sure to turn off those devices!

  5. Take Breaks

Taking breaks is often overlooked, but it is imperative for reducing stress levels and improving focus. A study by the University of Illinois found that taking short breaks can help improve focus and reduce fatigue, leading to increased productivity. Go for a walk, eat a snack, or stretch during your break. If your mind feels stale, it may be an indication that it may be a suitable time to take a break. The Intelligent Change planner also has designated break times for your convenience, allowing you to keep on top of all your work while feeling refreshed.
