  • Zanuruddin Md Abdul

    FEATURED MENTOR

    As a Mentor, Zanuriddin has developed his strengths and furthered them over the course of three terms. His dedicated approach in his mentorship has fully allowed for his Buddies to not only improve their reading level, but to greatly enjoy reading as an activity. He has maintained perfect attendance throughout his time and has ensured that for each and every session with his Buddy, he has come in with an enthusiastic and positive attitude, creating a nurturing environment for children to learn. Apart from that, he has also made significant efforts to connect with fellow volunteers, from Mentors to his Coordinators.   • Lei-Ting Lai

    FEATURED PROGRAM COORDINATOR

    Lei-Ting has done a phenomenal job in December as a new, full-time Programme Coordinator, showing knowledge and familiarity with how LBN sessions are run and learning as he progressed with his pod throughout the term. He has consistently found ways to help those around him, from his Executive Coordinator to his Mentors, and demonstrated towards those he works with his passion for LBN’s programs.   • Khaled Yaacoub

    FEATURED EXECUTIVE COORDINATOR

    Khaled has been a strong and hard-working volunteer with LBN for multiple terms, and throughout each and every one of them, he has shown how his caring and warm-hearted approach can contribute to our programs’ success and the impactful bonds built amongst volunteers as well as Buddies and staff. As the Executive Coordinator for his pod, he has had to take on responsibility and handle issues that come up, such as issues with Mentor placements and onboarding processes. However, throughout these challenging times, as a leader, Khaled has maintained a calm composure. On top of that, he has made tremendous efforts to connect with everyone in his pod, including Mentors and Buddies. As a result, throughout the whole term, close and respectful relationships amongst the pod have been maintained and even strengthened.     As a Systems Support Assistant (SSA) with the organization since May, Yihan has displayed concentration, helpfulness, and attentiveness in their work, assisting our programs to the best of their ability.     FEATURED PROGRAM COORDINATOR

    Subin has been a pleasure to work with and is incredibly organized in managing her pod. She uses the time before each session to plan, ensuring she covers everything needed for the week. By assigning specific tasks to each of her pod members, like setting up breakout rooms and taking attendance, she ensures everything runs smoothly. Subin has created a welcoming environment for the mentors, where they feel comfortable speaking up and asking questions, while also staying engaged with the buddies. She keeps everyone informed, going out of her way to ask questions when unsure about something, which allows her to better support the mentors, especially with the unique hybrid structure of the Bella Bella pod. Despite balancing her pharmacy school responsibilities, Subin manages her time well and excels in her roles as both a Program Coordinator and program team member.     Vashna Gounder has been working with Learning Buddies Network as a Regional Officer for some time! She has thought of activities to share with the team to increase engagement!     In his role as a Program Coordinator, Prabveer has thoroughly demonstrated traits of responsibility, kindness, and social connection with other fellow members of Learning Buddies Network. On top of managing his own pod and constantly contributing to his sessions as a leader and coordinator, he has taken on extra responsibilities to help in other capacities.     Knowing that our in-person program at Kingswood was starting out and had no Executive Coordinator, King stepped in to return to Learning Buddies Network as an EC. Throughout his time at Kingswood and with LBN, he has maximized his time and effort spent to ensure the program had a steady start and smooth term.     Devni has been a stand-out volunteer since she started here at LBN. She has grown from being a mentor to recently a program coordinator in the Summer term. This fall, she has been an extremely dedicated mentor who has been adapting to the needs of her buddy. She ensures that she remains patient and empathic throughout the sessions. All in all, Devni strives to build her buddy’s confidence in math from the inside out.

    Christine is a reading mentor that is both approachable and responsible. She comes to every session prepared, ensuring she has books, discussion questions, and worksheet activities for her buddy. Although her buddy was shy at first, she was able to help them feel more comfortable with her enthusiasm. By the end of the term, she was proud to see her buddy develop more vital linguistic skills and learn to enjoy reading.

    As a reading mentor, on-call program coordinator, and coordinator for on-calls, Oniza has been a committed volunteer for the last 3 terms. Her lengthy experience here at LBN has taught her how to regain a buddy’s attention when they get distracted and is always willing to grow within the organization. Additionally, she has assisted our new moodle project by allowing staff to record one of her sessions for our new training modules.
